Over
the last decade, Acercamiento Hispano has strived to preserve the
dignity, promote the well-being and improve the quality of life
of the Hispanic/Latino community in SC. Thanks to the abundance
of support and faith instilled in our goals, our vision has become
a reality. As we approach our 11th year, we know how much more needs
to be done to bridge the cultural gap for future generations in
the United Status.
According
to the US Census, South Carolina ranked sixth in Latino population
growth in the United States. In a time where our country’s
immigration is historically growing, businesses are becoming more
dependent on the Latino community. The high demand has brought countless
workers to our communities in need of a safe haven where advice
and service can be provided. Our determination to expand and develop
such services for the Latino community drives our small, but powerful
staff on a daily basis. Acercamiento Hispano/SC Hispanic Outreach
was one of the first agencies in South Carolina to provide free
immigration services for Hispanics, assistance to Latino victims
of domestic violence, and HIV/AIDS needs assessment and Spanish
HIV/AIDS instructors. Through our services we hope to continue helping
the Hispanic population become self reliant, proficient in English,
understand the United States legal system, and reduce the exploitation
of migrant workers.
